Can someone explain to an MMO-noob what binding (on pickup/equip) means please?
First of all hi! When an item binds to you it means that you can't transfer it to another character/alt. there are 2 types of binding as you said. 1.On pick-up means that when you loot the respective item you won't be able to trade it anymore. Only use it for yourself. 2. On equip means that when you loot the item you can do whatever you want with it , as it would go with a normal item ( sell, auction, drop, etc) but when you equip that item(wear it, drag it in a slot, etc) it binds to you. So you are no longer able to ransfer it to another character.
A binded item can only be used by the person it was bound to or sold to a vendor ( maybe used for a disenchant-like system)
Hope my answer was useful, Tami
It means that you can't trade it to anyone else, only you can equip it. So you can't even give to it an alt.
If an item has become "bound" to you, it means you cannot trade or auction the item to any other players. You can still sell the item to a vendor, but no other player may ever use it. The most common types are:
Bind-on-Pickup: As soon as you loot this item, it will bind to you and cannot be given away.
Bind-on-Equip: As soon as you physically equip the item to yourself or your companions, the item is bound to you and cannot be given away.

Nice to see even third part site have BW attention :)
Bind on pickup would mean once you pick it up you can not trade or sell it to someone else. Bind on equip means once you equip it you are no longer able to sell or trade it.
Basically, if you equip a bound item then you canot trade it with another player, but you can still sell it in item shops.
If an item is bound to you, it means you cannot trade it to other players or sell it on the auction house. Bind on pickup means that as soon as you loot that item and it is in your inventory, it is bound to you, and you cannot sell or trade it to another player. Bind on equip means that as soon as you equip that item on your character, it is bound to you, but you can sell or trade it to another player if you don't ever equip it. Bound items can always be sold to a vendor if you desire.
It means the item is bound to you. You can't trade it to someone else. There are account bound-items which you can trade only to your other characters.
Bind on pickup means, after you loot the item, you can't trade it to another player or auction it, but you can sell it to a vendor.
Bind on equip means: the item becames soulbund after you equip it to yourself or your companion.
Bind of Pickup and Equip means that exactly.
Upon picking up a item it will have a tag on it according that says "Bind on Pickup" "Bind on Equip" or no tag at all. Items that have no tag at all are trade-able to any player at any time whether you have worn the item or not.
Bind on Equip means that once you use the piece of equipment you can no longer trade it or mail it to another character, although you can transfer that piece of equipment to a companion.
Bind on Pickup is when the moment you pick up a item it is instantly bound to that character and all their companions, it is not trade-able in any way, shape, or form.
Well, when you recieve an item there are two options; 1) It is "bind on equip" - i.e. this item can be used by anyone, but once used it becomes bound to that player. So it's up for grabs (i.e. you can sell it if you have a buyer) until it is equipped. 2) It is "bind on pickup" - i.e. it is bound to the player that picks the item from the container/body/quest reward giver etc. This item is not sellable, but if you recieve on of these that you do not wish to use, you can sell it to a vendor, or perhaps even use it in some proffession to break it down into components or similar.
It is fairly simple.
Bind on Pickup means that when you loot an item it will imediatly be bound to you, meaning that you cannot trade/sell to other players by any means. Your still able to sell these items to vendors once you have no use for the item.
Bind on Equpid means that it will not bind to you untill you equpid the item, so if you chose to not equpid it you can sell/trade the item to other players either via the auction house or trade chat. these items are also able to be sold to vendors if you so chose.
bind on pickup means exactly what it sound like, it is attached to your character as soon as you pick it up, bind on equip is attached to your character when you equip it not when you pick it up.

bind on pickup means its bind to you and cannot sell on an action house or anything like that (you can mostly sell it to a vendor) bind on equip means you need to equip it to you like if you get a chest piece and it stand bind on equip you can equip (take it on) if you do that you then its soulbound on you, means you cannot sell it on action house like Bind on pickup.
ps: bind on pickup when you loot it automatically soulbound to you,

Basically the difference between BoP(Bind on pick up) and BoE(Bind on Equip) is as follows:
BoP: The second you loot the item and it is in your inventory, it is Bound to your character, meaning you can't trade it to other players or sell it on an auction house. You can still sell it to vendors or drop it to get rid of it.
BoE: If you get an item with "bind on equip" in the description then, until you equip that item on to your avatar, you can trade it to other players or sell it on an auction house. Once you equip it however it becomes Bound to your character.
