strangely enough, there is apparently no 'top' dps class. If you read through the developer posts on the swtor.com site, there is one where i think it was either reid or zoeller said each class will effectively be similar to allow all classes to fill the desired role you choose to play.

while some classes are dps based compared to tanking or healing, the post said they did not consider 5% more dmg etc to be a good enough basis to make them stronger than other classes.

There is no main role.

Smugglers and Imperial Agents can be Healers or DPS.

They do not have the highest DPS. Any class specialized in dealing damage will be competitive. This is also valid for Healers and Tanks.

I dont think in SWTOR there will be a main DPS/TANK/HEALER class. i feel every class has a skill tree that can succefully fulfill every roll except of course healing as there are are only certain classes that have healing capabilities. But the way i see it there wone be a main DPS class or a main Tanking class.

No, not really. They both are damage dealers, but there are DPS classes for all of the classes that work just as well, or in some cases better. They're both better at support.
