Light/Dark Side Meter

posted this , edited by jpeg Dec 4 2011 6:51 PM

Does anyone know if it is possible to change factions if the light/dark side meter goes high enough in a direction? Can my bounty hunter get tired of simply chasing after money after seeing the futility of it all, if after all his captures and riches, he wonders what's the point of it all and starts to care more about the ones he love...can such a man join the republic? And could a Jedi, hungry for power, tired of limitations set by the Jedi council, succumb to the dark side and join the sith empire? The highly narrative aspect of this game, to me, would lend itself to that. If anyone knows, please share.

You can reverse your light/dark side points by playing nice/bad but you cannot change your faction. It is the same as Alliance and Horde in World of Warcraft. Once you decide your faction, you cannot change it.

No, there is no option to change faction based on your affinity.

There currently is no way to change factions no matter how dark or light you get.

This question gets asked several times a day. In the future, try a search like "switch faction", but that being said, No it is not possible for you to switch.

Don't think of Dark Side as synonymous with Empire, or Light Side as synonymous with Republic. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Just look at Anakin Skywalker he was very dark and was still with the republic, it was not the empire till after he was full dark ;)

hehe yes very true! It seems few jedi make the conscious "flip" to betray the Republic, it's more that their reasoning is slowly twisted and manipulated by very powerful and clever Sith

No, all the Light and Dark meter does is act as a reputation meter to allow access to better weapons and armor/quests/etc

There is no way to change factions due to light side/dark side points. Essentially your characters are old enough when you start out that they likely would have made such a decision already, Bounty Hunters deciding they were better suited to join the Republic Army as a Trooper or Jedi abandoning their padawan studies for the ways of the dark side. Or they were just born in the Republic/Empire and thus follow the path laid out before them. Either way though, there are no faction changes at this time. Maybe it's something they're considering for the future, but they've given no indication of this.

No you cannot change factions, because even though the classes are mirrored they are still faction locked. Will it be frowned upon by NPC's if you are a Jedi Knight who chooses every dark side option? Yes. But they aren't going to kick you out and make you suddenly turn into a Sith Warrior.

No you can not change factions. However you can loose light/dark points and lean to the other side. You can be a jedi that only picks "dark" answers.

Nope. But I do like the story of Set Harth, in the third Darth Bane book. Really describes quite well why a Dark Jedi is just not Sith material. A Sith believes in a cause. A Dark Jedi just believes in himself, yet is still associated to the Jedi Order by others.

sigh No. You can't switch Factions. Your LS/DS meter acts more as your attitude. The example I keep using: A DS Jedi will still fully support the Republic, but he might comment that he thinks the Republic should be more aggressive with its actions.

The answer is going to be a no, although personally I believe that smugglers ,Bounty Hunters, Agents and Troopers could be classes on both sides.

especially troopers, in all the wars the Empire fought against the Republic, the Empire always had mass troops aswell :D
