Does it matter if you choose sith or jedi? Because their is light and dark side decisions.

Faction is pointless in this question because of the light side/dark side points you gain through the conversation part of the game. So therefore you can be a Good Sith or a Evil Jedi, or whatever class you decide to choose.

It matters as far as it determines what your personal storyline will be and which faction you'll be fighting for.

With the Dark Side/Light Side (DS/LS) options, you are able to directly determine the moral alignment of your character. With Jedi, you can be a LS Jedi who is devoted to the Jedi Code and upholding the Republic. On the other hand you can be a DS Jedi who defends the Republic but is just as evil as the worst in the Empire.

Conversely, you can be a DS Sith who is the epitome of evil and fights for the Empire. Alternatively, you can be a LS Sith who is morally good and strives to do the right thing, but is swept up by the war and ends up fighting for the wrong side (not that the Empire is "wrong", per se, but as a LS Sith, you'll find that the Empire's views don't really agree with your own).

The cool thing about TOR is that this applies to all of the classes. So you can be really "good" "good guys" or really "bad" "bad guys", or you can be a "good" "bad guy" or a "bad" "good guy". This is a really cool game and story-telling feature, as it shows that there are good and bad people on both sides, that matters of war are rarely black and white, and that ultimately, these people whose fantastic and adventurous storylines we are witnessing are just human, plain and simple.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Too many people think "Dark Side" and "Empire" are synonymous, or "Light Side" and "Republic".

Quite honestly, and without giving away any spoilers, the absolute best storyline I witnessed (and I played through all classes except the Knight and the Warrior up to level 12) was that of a Light Sided Sith Inquisitor. The Inquisitor's st......

Both Republic players and Empire players can make Light Side and Dark Side Choices. But the choice to play Sith or Jedi is still important, because it determines which faction you are a part of. Even if you go full Dark Side as a Jedi you will stay a member of the Republic.

Also the spells/abilities of each class are the same functionally, but have different names and different visual effects, most noticeably with Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor. (Throw rocks or shoot lightning)

You can be a dark side Jedi, or a light sided Sith. Faction has nothing to do with dark/light.

They have completely separate story lines, lots of different planets and stuff, plus different powers.

Each side has their own powers and strengths. You CANNOT change from jedi to sith or visa versa by light/dark descisions!

Note that this MMO is EXTREMELY unique in that it is individual storyline driven. If you go lightside then your storyline takes a deep path from when you go dark side.

My recommendation is to try a character, and if you really like it, try it in each advanced class going dark then light. " For example: make a sith warrior and try being a "dark" juggernaut and a "light" marauder. That's what I plan to do :P

Yes. Your class choice determines several things. Your starting world, your class story, your abilities, your companions, what side you're fighting on, and your HQ.

You will experience moral choice on both sides and may be light or dark on both sides and with all classes, not just Jedi and Sith. You can pick any faction morality combination you like for any class!

I made that post. It turns out IE was playing tricks on me. I'm using Chrome now. Could some admin/moderator fix that for me?
