What addition(s) would you like to see on R2-Db.com?

posted this , edited by ♦♦Jesta Sep 27 2011 10:48 AM

Got to thinking about how far the crew have come and was wondering....how many people actually ask for something to be added? maybe this will give Jesta, Gnarf and the other code monkeys here something to think about (or completely ignore)so feel free to post what you'd like to see here in the future!

We still don't have an incredible amount of people using the site, just a handful, and that's ok with us ;)

I'm sure as more and more people discover the site, more suggestions will arise!

i would love to be able to make an avatar and equip it with the best weapons and armor and do up the talent tree like wowhead profile if you have ever seen it:)

This site will be for SWTOR like Wowhead is for WoW. When the game gets released, I imagine that many people will come here for advice and information.

I'd love to see a "Best Answer" feature of sorts for the Questions section...similar to Yahoo Answers, I guess. Some way for the original poster to designate which questions was the one that solved their "issue" or answered their question properly. Right now that's mostly done by upvotes, which works, but a big callout of "THIS GUY WAS RIGHT" is nice too. Especially if your profile then keeps track of how many "Best Answers" you have.

This is actually implemented :) The one asking the question can select one. I believe the sorting has been fixed too for this. So that the chosen answer is highest and then sorted based on votes.

I've added a big ol' block on the top of answers that have been accepted, you can see it on your answer here: Allies and Adversaries, what do you think they will do in-game?

Awesome, Jesta. Thanks!

I think having a separate "special" vote is good...because as we know, things will get upvoted just because they're funny or interesting, not necessarily because they're correct.

You guys continue to impress me every day :)

The top bar. It's aesthetically very attractive, but instead of just 4 buttons I think direct links to the Dashboard and Questions would be easier and more practical.

A notification feature for answers to questions you've asked, or comments on any post you've made.

Edit: I see now the mail icon next to Post. Will that show notifications for responses to your posts later in development?

If you use the dashboard to read it, it does have source links, do you mean on the RSS feed itself? If so, I think we can make that happen.

If ewer possible id like to see a beimba, wowheroes type function but more focused on tips on character development trough the leveling process then just endgame epen meter.

I know this recuires Tor to make a web-based armory function but if the do this could be a great help for players trying to make the most of there character during the leveling process.

Sincerely Inazhria.

I like a lot of those features too, we'll considering getting some in, but it's going to probably be a more late-game feature for us rather than something we develop now. We'll keep the idea warm on the back-burner.

That is totally understandable as it recuires a armory type function on the main site to get data from and will be hard to start developing on till said system is in place ^^

I think that a separation of Questions from posts in general in the sidebar would be useful, especially when searching for existing answers.

Yup. When you type in a search string and you get tags like Profiles, Records and Posts. I feel that breaking Posts into Questions and Posts (or somesuch) would be very useful, if it's doable.

I think we might actually try to accomplish this by creating a special syntax in the search. For example, you could search for: [question] Features Which would return only questions with the word features in them. However, we haven't quite ......

Perhaps i missed said function or its only available too OP's.

Id like a "Fact" posting option beside the Question one for example under the class section you could state the fact that tanking in Light armor as a Guardian is a bad idea and then ppl can vote on those facts instead of like it is now where everything need's to be stated as a Q:

Not really a "must have" for everyone, but: an RSS feed for all the newly posted questions would be cool. Not the updates or awnsers or whatever, just whenever a new question gets posted. I'm a sucka for RSS feeds and looking for awnsers to these SWTOR Q's on the interwebs, so that would be handy for me. (I know, it's niche, but the question is "What addition would YOU like to see...?" :P)

Basically i saw in another post/thread(im not used to this site yet n dunno what to call things) some asked if it could maybe look a bit more like WoWhead and function like it, no i never made an account on wowhead even tho i played wow for 6 years, but if this site is simple and looks/functions like wowhead i see it becoming very popular, i will recommend it to all my mates who will be playing ToR. i don't have anything really specific just the general look/function of wowhead is nice n easy n simple, so that would be good

Asked this in IRC already but wanted to add it to the list.

A special quote block for developers quotes.

Formatted with yellow text and possibly a way to tag the link and author.

My biggest concern for Tor is story spoilers. I know Jesta, you added a spoiler tag, I was hoping we could segregate questions that have the spoiler tag into a completely different board section. So people who are trying to avoid spoilers don't find them in the recently active questions. This way the only way to find spoilers is to be actively looking for them (theoretically anyway).

The followup concern to this would be, what if people don't put spoiler tag on something that has spoilers? Drop rep? I'm not sure, I just thought this might be a good issue to bring up.

I think it should be up to the moderators and community members to apply the Spoilers tag if it's not applied. We can't penalize people for asking questions. I do plan on making it so if the spoiler tag is present, the preview of the question is blocked.

Also, don't forget you can block a tag, although I think it still will display in some locations at the current moment, if you are blocking a tag it should hide the posts in the dashboard (at a minimum).

Another addition I would enjoy would be a modifier on the Rep History. I really love this tool, as it helps me keep track of where my comments have been most appreciated by other users as well as tracking my "progress".

Would it be possible to add in tracking the +2's for selecting another users post as an answer to our questions?

A minor detail, but hopefully it's useful information :)
