Crew skills - Access before level 10?

Is there a way to get access to crew skills before a character reaches level 10? That is, is there a way for players to get to Republic/Imperial Fleet trainers before they actually get a mission to send them there?

Just seems to be a lot of resource nodes around the starter worlds (Tython in my experience) begging to be collected.

I think you can go straight to the Fleet at level 1 if you just take the shuttle. I don't know if you actually get the skills though, at least I haven't tried.

Absolutely. In fact, I always do this with a new character:

The moment I can get into the outside world, I take a shuttle to the spaceport, accept the Crafting/Social Skills quests, and then go talk to every crafting trainer. Not only will I get the exp for finishing the crafting quest, I also get 450xp for each codex entry I get for each skill. By the end, I'm already level 3 or 4, and all the early-game content gets far easier.

Yes there is no level limitation to crew skills-

Yes and no. You can travel to your faction fleet even at level one and get your Crew Skills, but you will be only able to gather materials from strong robots with Scavenging or strong beasts with Bioanalysis . However, you won't be able to craft anything until you get first companion.

I saw a post about being able to go to the fleet at level one and grab your crew skills... but I tried it, (sith) and I couldn't board the shuttle to get to the fleet until I got the mission. So, I think they "fixed" this in a patch (I tried it thanksgiving beta weekend).

Youc an gather before level 10, but you can not craft till you get a companion.
