Same Sex Romances : How Do You Feel?

posted this , edited by ♦♦gnarf Dec 10 2011 7:09 PM

It seems like the whole same sex relationships has been a big issue for this game. BioWare has done them in the past, but it seems to be more of a to do this time around. Do you think that they should put same sex romances into the game?

I think it's disgusting! This is after all a game that many children will play and this is not the place to be trying to push someone's sexual, religious, or political beliefs!

Many of us are using it as a escape from reality, not a place to get into these debates!

Lol? Ok, sure anon. Nobody is making you participate in anything untoward in the game. Don't get your undies in a bunch.

They're already planning on it. It didn't make it into release because of resource restraints, but they are planning on post-release same-sex romance. So this shouldn't be an issue.

The usual answer still stands: if you don't want to participate in same-sex romance, don't pursue it.

Simply put, the hint (Flirt) is before any romance option. So should you not want to go that route you are more then able to visually see and from there choose whether to select, or not, the option.

I am so for this. It's not exactly a compulsory option, but it would be a huge step backwards for the progression of LGBT rights if it wasn't included. In my opinion, people are still far too squeamish of the thought of homosexual relationships.

This shouldn't even be a question in this day and age. And not in any fictitious universe, especially as the uniform truth of Everything.

As noted by the creators of Battlestar Galactica (2004) and Caprica, our homophobia is largely dictated by religions. Human beings have pretty much monopolized it. Animals don't care. And the aforementioned series, no such instance existed, so it was entirely a non-issue so if there is no such instance in the Start Wars Universe, well, that still doesn't mean it doesn't make it a biological impossibility. At the very least, you could expect to find someone who's willing to prostitute themselves for the right amount of cash, even if they find it distasteful; people do it in the real world.

Should someone be offended by a (homosexual) relationship, it'd be surprising if they were not totally outraged at pretty much everything a Dark Sider does. And this is the true controversy; why is sexuality such a big issue where wanton murder isn't? Firstly, because conservatives can see violence (ie. war) as a means to an end. Secondly, it's a fight where they can still score small victories even if they are losing the war.

In asking "should they have equal rights (in terms of representation, for example)?" we are insinuating that the question is worth our time.

I'm pretty indifferent on the matter, i don't see why they wouldn't implement it since they have in previous games. Also one of Biowares rules of conduct says you can not judge any person based on these factors, so excluding it would seem almost contradictory.

And no this is not a family game, if you choose to let everyone in your family play no matter what age they are, you are misunderstanding the purpose of the Teen ESRB rating. If you have a teenager who chooses to go the same-sex romance option, unless they are paying for the game themselves, you should be able to cut them off as a parent.

Again I'm still indifferent on that matter, since i never roll a female character i will probably just stick with the male/female relationships, but than again it is an RPG, so go nuts, and be what you want to be.

This shouldn't even be a question. Fortunately, it isn't really, as same-sex romances are confirmed to be in the game, just not yet at launch. From a marketing point of view, if you're going to include romance at all, it'd be pretty silly to not include romance options that would appeal to a very large segment of your market. From a societal point of view, this is simply acknowledging and embracing the reality of our society (and species).

Whether or not it's a family game isn't an issue. Sex isn't any more or less dirty depending on the genders involved. In the beta, my Agent slept with an NPC before level 7. If you don't want your kids to know about sex, you don't want them to play this game.

BTW, I'm one of those "previous generation" people.

Ok definitely not the appropriate place to ask something like this. There is at best a poll. I highly suggest contributing to the discussion of this on the official forums, where it is infinitely more likely to have an impact on the game than here. Thanks!

They will. They have said that there will definitely be same sex romances in expansion content. It just isn't in for launch. Don't worry. You will eventually have all the opportunity for gay that you can handle.

Bioware and same sex relationships have always been a source of controversy. When I played KoTOR, given the interactions between a female lead, I thought that you could until right up at the very end. The only BW game that I've played that has let me go that route has been Jade Empire and that they didn't show the animation in the xbox version because it was added last minute and they had problems with the height.

If it is done well with all the appropriate flags, I'm all for it. I wouldn't intend to explore the options for boy-boy, but after I'm done working on my first boy-girl relationship I'll certainly go down the girl-girl route with another character I make if its available.

It's stupid! Love was meant to be between 2 members of the opposite sex, not two of the same sex. It's immoral and blasphemous!

I think it is fine. People make such a big deal about it, but it really is not.

Play though Skyrim and getting married to a girl as a girl and wow, guess what she still refers to you as the same "my love" as she does if you are a man. I think so long as they do not refer to you by sex you could just fip a switch and bam you are done.

I think same sex relationships are fine, I am trying to say that they are and should not be looked at as such a big deal. Let people love whoever they want.

But as in games like DA:O some people just do not swing that way.

This is a sensitive matter.

But my vote is no. It's a family game and it should stay that way

So are you saying that homosexuals are not a demographic that should be considered child friendly? That's rather homophobic of you. You're going to hell for that.

Guys, keep in mind that some TOR players are literally from a different generation. Lets be the more respectful ones here and not debase ourselves to insults.

SWTOR isn't a 'family game'. It has an ESRB Rating of teen due to Blood and Gore, Mild Language, Sexual Themes, and Violence.
