So I just experienced a huge drop in rep - did the system malfunction or something? And was anybody else affected by this? I think I had a few more levels about half an hour ago - now I'm down to level eleven. Not that I'm complaining or anything - I'm glad my posts are able to help people out. But I'm just really confused at what just happened.

R2-DB just tweeted and posted on facebook that they deleted duplicate accounts that players used to upvote their own comments/questions and guides. Basically, preventing players from falsely getting more entries into the contest and falsely getting more rep on the site.
Kinda fun watching peoples Reputation and Level on R2 just drain away as we delete the fake accounts they create to up-vote themselves =)

well, if I benefited from this I definitely didn't know it. In fact, I think it should work the other way for me. I swear people have been down voting me for no reason sometimes. :P

Ahhh... lol, I noticed a lot of my bad rep posts disappear too, so I think a bunch of trolls got shut down too - yay! :D

You are exactly right - We are removing accounts that have obviously been participating in vote fraud.
Hopefully a lot of those -1's you got disappeared too.

Good to see that devs are keeping tabs on unfair voting =] I noticed earlier that this question was 'attacked'. Everything was downvoted, question itself and good answers as well.

I know! I'd go around and see perfectly legitimate questions being absolutely sacked, so I'd end up voting it up just out of pity. Trolls will troll, I guess.

We've been finding many accounts that are used for nothing but voting on a single person over and over to inflate their reputation. Once we delete the account, the reputation & votes get undone as well, deflating your reputation. years1......

The system does this if it suspects that there may be foul play going on. For instance, if a single person has been upvoting a ton of your comments, or if someone on your IP has been upvoting your stuff.
If you believe that this has occurred in error, then contact R2DB's support.
Edit: this can also occur if a mod goes through old questions and marks various questions as Community Posts. Those will no longer count toward reputation

I noted a drop, maybe not as big as yours, and I checked my reputation history and there was nothing there. I figured it was some site rejiggering.

Yes, i've noticed that too.
I think site admins is doing some fix? reducing +rep from community posts perhaps (they were meant to not give you any +rep)

I got cut for 40ish points, dunno why. I just assume its from +rep that I gain from "Community Posts" marked questions .

Oh, yeah community posts do not count toward rep. Perhaps a Moderator has been going through old questions and marking various questions as Comm posts.

Well, it seems if you gain rep for a question that is later marked as a community post, you still get to keep that initial rep, so that might have had something to do with it.

@years100 - Just to add - that rep that you "keep" from the community post is going to stay with you until we recalculate, so like - its "temporary" :)

@Gnarf: Oh, sad pandas. :( Question though - I'm noticing that when multiple people vote for one answer, I only get +10 rep - is this a result of the new system? Before, I'm pretty sure you'd get a rep gain for every single post, as well as a notification of it.

it might just look strange in your rep history, but there are individual entries for each vote, not each post
