Technically you don't need to go to an Item Modification Station to modify items, you can do it anywhere.

Basically find an item that has mods in it (i.e. a lightsaber, chestpiece, helm, etc.). Hold CTRL and right-click on the item to bring up a window that shows the item's slots and current mods inside it. From here you can drag the mods to your inventory for a fee, or place mods from your inventory into the item. "Upgrading" your lightsaber is simply finding new components to put into it and replace old ones.

EDIT: And as far as the Item Modification Stations go, when you use one it will bring up a window listing all the modifiable items in your inventory. I'm not sure what would be bugging out for you, though, without any more info.

Yep, I mod items without a station all the time. I would like confirmation if the station makes it cheaper to remove.

First of all, it's CTRL+right click Secondly, I just checked and there was no difference in cost of taking out mod with or without station. Remember that you need to take out mods only if you want keep the old mod. If you don't need old mod......
