If I've chosen to make a Trooper Vanguard and invest in one of the damage talent trees (Tactics or Assault Specialist), how effective will my damage-dealing be relative to a Trooper Commando (Using Gunnery or Assault Assault Specialist).
Is the disparity so much that I'll be laughed out of flashpoints for wanting to join in a damage role?

It all depends on how you like to play. The Vanguard offers a tanking ability, and yet close combat skills, where the Commando is a longer range cannon DPS with a healing tree option. so with the vanguard depending on your specific tree you will be up close and personal with the enemy taking high damage; where with the Commando you will be in the back laying down heavy fire and using minor healing tactics to heal yourself and or team mates.

Sounds like I've made the right choice then; I like to be in the thick of it with good defense. But if I'm doing that, will my damage output be comparable to a Trooper Commando?
